The Hansa Canon was originally a response to a call from the Emperor of Japan  to the Japanese people to develop domestic technology and industry.

1935

The first Canon camera produced after the war by  scarce raw materials from the rubble of war-torn Japan was the "J II (Post-War Popular Model)."

1945

The "II B" camera featured a three-mode optical viewfinder. This model contributed to consolidating the solid post-war foundation of the company.

1949

The first Canon SLR camera was the “Canonflex".  With new advances in SLR camera technology, the SLR lenses evolved from R-series lenses to FL-series lenses, which incorporated a fully automatic aperture control mechanism.

1959

The "Canonet" camera became a record-breaking hit. This 35mm lens-shutter camera invited a good deal of customer acceptance.

1961

The "FX" camera featured a built-in CdS exposure meter, making way for TTL (Through the Lens) photography of such successive cameras as the PELLIX and FTQL.

1964

 The "F-1" satisfied professional photographers with multiple functions and the systematic configuration.

1971

The advertisement about "Kwanon," a prototype of the Japanese produced 35mm rangefinder camera was appeared in the Asahi Camera magazine.

1934

The Color Demi has a pebbled synthetic covering on the hinge-attached front and back covers came in black, blue, white, and red.

1963

The Canon AE-1 was the first camera to be fully automatic with an embedded microcomputer.  The camera, having the slogan “So advanced, it’s simple”, was designed for everyday use.

1976

The A-1 was the top-of-the-line A-series camera. (The AE-1 was the first in this series.) It was a sophisticated electronic camera with all-digital control.

1978

Canon's first EOS camera had the latest technologies including a super microcomputer and a Canon-developed BASIS sensor for high-precision AF. The EOS 650 has top-of-the-line autofocusing.

1987

"Kiss" stood for "Keep It Smart and Silent." While the "EOS Kiss" featured a small, compact design and automated operation as an entry model for the beginning SLR camera user, it incorporated AF functions, an exposure mechanism, and various AE modes. This camera was for easy, everday use.

1993

1996

The 35mm EOS-1Ds Mark III featuring 21.1 megapixels and full-size CMOS image sensor.

2007

Canon debuted the EOS 5D Mark II, the industry’s first SLR digital camera capable of recording full HD video. This camera won three major international camera awards.

2008

The PowerShot SX50 HS has a very high zoom that can go so far, you will be able to see farther with this camerea than with the naked eye. The Canon HS SYSTEM, a combination of a 12.1 Megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 Image Processor, achieves beautiful images up to ISO 6400. The screen has a 1080p Full HD video with stereo sound and High Speed AF that helps to take the clearest possible pictures.
